One held for duping BE students of Rs 10 lakh Hyderabad, March 29 (INN): Task Force sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a man who cheated money from engineering students by promising them that he would help them clear their backlogs of their examinations.
According to Task Force officials, Mohd Basheer Khan from New Mallepally in the city was introduced to some of the engineering students of Deccan Engineering College, Darussalam by their college-mate Imran and one Firasat of Mallepally.
Basheer claimed before the students that he could 'manage' the Osmania University authorities and make them clear all their backlogs as he was connected to the engineering faculty.
He demanded Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 per paper as per the marks requirement. This way, Basheer lured several students of the Deccan Engineering college, MJ Engineering college and CBIT college and collected approximately Rs 10 lakh.
Since all students failed in revaluation exam, they asked him to repay their amount as they had borrowed the said amount from friends and relatives. However, Basheer started making excuses and claimed that the University staff had taken the money and were not returning it back.
He also threatened them that since their hall-tickets were with him, he could ensure that they fail in the examinations. The students filed a complaint with the police after Basheer threatened them with dire consequences and also issued threats over phones. The police managed to arrest him and he was handed over to SHO, Habeebnagar PS for further action.
