Hyderabad records highest literacy rate
Hyderabad: Contrary to expectations, population growth in Hyderabad district has been lower when compared to other districts. It was thought that the city population would have increased by 10 to 15 lakh in the last ten years.
But the increase in population in the period 2001-2011 is just around 1.80 lakh as per the provisional population totals for Hyderabad district released by the director of census operations, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
Hyderabad district comprising the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH), Osmania University and Secunderabad Cantonment has a population of 40,10,238, which consists of 20,64,359 males and 19,45,879 females, showing a meagre increase of 1,80,485 persons, with decadal growth rate of 4.71 as against 21.74 recorded in the 2001 census. The growth rate, therefore, has come down by 17 percent.
As per the 2001 census, the population was about 38,29,753 which included 19,81,173 men and 18,48,580 women, director of census operations, YV Anuradha told Express.
Hyderabad district also tops in the literacy rate. The highest literacy rate recorded among all districts is in the Hyderabad district at 80.96 percent, with male literacy at 83.35 percent and female at 78.42 percent. In 2001, literacy rate was 78.80 percent.
She said the state has recorded a density of 308 persons per sq km as against 277 in 2001. Hyderabad district also has registered the highest population density with 18,480 persons per sq km followed by Rangareddy with 707.
The lowest sex ratio was recorded in Hyderabad district with 943 females per 1000 males preceded by Rangareddy with 955. In 2001 census, it was 933 per 1,000. Out of the 4,19,500 population in the age group 0-6, boys accounted for 2,16,428 and girls 2,03,072. The literacy rate of the 0-6 group is 78.42 percent.
