Sports Complex inaugurated at Chandanagar Hyderabad, April 3 (INN): Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of the country and the Indian Cricket team on its being crowned the ICC World Cup champions.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Multipurpose Sports Complex at Chandanagar near Kukatpally, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said that sports are necessary to build physical and mental agility among children.
The Chief Minister also announced that new sports complexes would come up in Goshamahal and Kukatpally, while a sports complex will be inaugurated in Chandulal Baradari and a swimming pool of international standards will be opened in Amberpet. The sports complex has been named after former minister P Janardhan Reddy.
The Chandanagar sports Complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 6.27 crore on a three acre plot of land. The construction of the sports complex began in 2007.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy suggested that the government, instead of allotting open lands to corporate houses, should construct sports complexes, parks, schools or houses for the poor.
Mr Jaipal Reddy said that builders are constructing apartments but are not leaving open plots where children can play and relax. The Union Minister said that the sports complexes should be handed over to City Development authorities so that proper maintenance can be taken up.
