Thrashed by cop, ST farmer seek media help Hyderabad, April 5 (INN): Claiming that they had no other recourse left for them except to approach the media, a group of men belonging to the Scheduled Tribes of Kurmidda village, expressed their helplessness in getting justice after a law-keeper turned into a law-breaker and was threatening them.
Talking to media persons here, Nenavath Thaurya and Nenavath Ghansya alleged that Yacharam Sub-Inspector Krishna Raju had beat them up and shooed them away from the police station when they had gone there to file a complaint, on March 23. The two ST community members alleged that the Yacharam SI also told them point-blank that he would not register a complaint.
The duo had gone to the police station to file a complaint after they had been threatened by a powerful village landlord to either sell a portion of their lands or these would be occupied forcibly.
Elaborating further, one of the complainants Thaurya alleged that this landlord Bande Krishna Reddy, along with some others, had warned him to sell his plot of 14 acre and 15 guntas.
It was when he refused to heed to the diktat, that the situation took a turn for the worse. 'I was summoned by the Yacharam Sub-Inspector Krishna Raju who insisted that I should yield to Krishna Reddy's diktat and sell the portion of land which my forefathers cultivated. This land falls under Survey Numbers 288 and 311. When I refused to do so, I was warned of dire consequences by the Sub-Inspector,' alleged Thaurya.
Apart from the SI's threats, Thaurya alleges that he was threatened of being eliminated if he did not succumb to the pressure and agreed to sell his lands. 'I was threatened by Bande Krishna Reddy and his associates that I would be done away with,' Thaurya stated.
After being mistreated by the SI, Thaurya approached the Ranga Reddy district Collector to air his grievance. The Collector in turn directed the LB Nagar DCP to probe the matter and take action against Sub-Inspector Krishna Raju and the others.
On Tuesday, Thaurya finally approached the media as no action was taken even after the Collector's orders. 'I am before you as my family and property needs to be protected. Instead of being given protection, I have been made to do rounds of the police stations.'
