GHMC helper demands salary arrears from atop a tower Hyderabad, April 7 (INN): An employee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, who had climbed atop a telephone tower at Basheer Bagh early on Thursday demanding that his two months' salary arrears be released immediately, was arrested and slapped with a case by police.
The entire episode let to a minor traffic jam on the busy stretch in front of the Lal Bahadur Stadium when 48-year-old Narsimhulu, a helper in the GHMC's LB Nagar ward, climbed the tower and threatened to jump off if his salary arrears were not released forthwith.
He said that he had been trying to get his pay arrears released and had even tried to kill himself twice by consuming pesticide after becoming frustrated due to the delay. However, he said, the GHMC officials remained unmoved to his plight and were totally neglecting his demands.
Narsimhulu threatened to jump to his death if his demands were not met immediately.
Soon enough, a sizeable crowd gathered to watch the spectacle and from among this crowd, on unidentified man coaxed Narsimhulu to come down. This unidentified man wrote something on a sheet of paper and affixed his signature. This led to the GHMC helper climbing down the tower, with his life intact.
However, Narsimhulu was in for a shock when he touched the ground as the police boarded him on to a waiting van and hauled him off to the Saifabad police station. He was booked under various sections for his display of public nuisance.
