GHMC staff announce strike over Corporators' remarks Hyderabad, April 7 (INN): Bhagyanagar Municipal Employees Union of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Thursday resorted to a pen down strike and demanded an unconditional apology from the Corporators for terming GHMC Commissioner Sameer Sharma and the Employees as thieves during the bedlam which ensued at the General Body meeting earlier in the day.
Talking to media persons at GHMC head office in Tank Bund, Bhagyanagar Municipal Employees Union Additional General Secretary Vinay Kapur condemned the remarks of the Corporators against employees and the Commissioner during the general body meeting on illegal constructions in the city.
Protesting against the Corporator's behavior, the employees have launched the pen down strike immediately, Mr Vinay Kapur said. The strike will continue till the Corporators issue an unconditional apology, he added.
Mr Vinay Kapur added that the employees would abstain from duties from Friday if the apology is not issued. Stating the Corporators' behaviour was not suitable to their posts, he demanded that the Chief Minister step in and take note of the situation.
Mr Vinay Kapur said that all department employees in the GHMC including sanitation, streetlights, planning, medical and health and garbage collection will boycott their duties on Friday protesting the Corporators' remarks.
