Water from Mir Alam safe to drink: HMWSSB Hyderabad, April 10 (INN): Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director M Jagadeeshwar on Sunday inspected the filtration process and laboratory facilities at Miralam Filter Beds, near Nehru Zoological Park after citizens lodged complaints that discoloured water was being supplied from the Filter.
After his inspection tour, Mr Jagadeeshwar stated that he found that the water coming from Himayath Sagar source is well treated and filtered and the water is potable.
Later, the HMWSSB GM, along with ENC and Director (Projects) M.Satyanarayana and Director (Technical) S Prabhakar Sharma held a meeting with the concerned Chief General Managers (E) O and M Circle -I and Circle 'III and General Managers(E), Deputy General Managers (E), Managers (E) of O and M Division-I and II.
Mr Jagadeeshwar instructed the officials to be more responsive towards rectifying pollution cases reported if any and maintain good water Supply/Quality in the areas served under Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs where the problem of smell and odour was reported. He also urged them to follow the remedial measures suggested by the Expert committee constituted for resolving these problems.
The Managing Director stressed on the need to strengthen laboratory in the MRG filters and in other places and instructed the concerned GM (QAT) to come out with proposals for the same.
Incidentally, before the arrival of Managing Director, Ramnastpura Corporator Mohd Mobinalong with some residents visited MRG filters to complain about water pollution to which ENC and Director (Projects) M Satyanarayana and HMWSSB Technical Director S Prabhakar Sharma explained the entire filtration process in the filter beds and how clear water is being distributed to which they expressed satisfaction and went away.
The pollution may be due to mixing up of drainage water with drinking water and the same would be rectified immediately, the officials assured. They also said that meanwhile, drinking water would be supplied through deploying tankers.
