ACB searches Uppal stadium, seizes records
Hyderabad: Days after the court directed the ACB to investigate the alleged irregularities in the construction of Rajiv Gandhi international stadium at Uppal, involving Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) office-bearers, ACB sleuths swung into action and seized several documents from the Uppal stadium and Gymkhana grounds on Wednesday.
Two teams of ACB officials under the supervision of joint director Sampath Kumar searched the premises this afternoon and seized the records. 'The scrutiny of the documents will begin shortly,' sources said.
The ACB also served notices to two construction companies -- Nagarjuna Construction Company and SS Constructions -- who were involved in the construction of Uppal stadium -- to hand over all necessary records pertaining to the construction to the investigating agency.
On April 7, C Babu Rao Sagar, secretary of the Sagar Cricket Club, filed a petition in the ACB court alleging that some of the office-bearers of the HCA had committed financial irregularities during the construction of Uppal stadium. Following this, the court directed the ACB to register cases against HCA vice president Shivlal Yadav and 22 other committee members and investigate the matter.
The ACB registered a case and took up investigation. They would submit the report by May 9. According to the petitioner, as per the construction agreement between HCA and NCC the stadium was to be built at a cost of Rs 30.26 crore but the cost was allegedly allowed to escalate to Rs 108 crore.
The petitioner alleged that the HCA bosses allowed this to happen in exchange for huge kickbacks. Cases have been registered against 23 persons under Sections 11, 12, and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act, and Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC.
