Science Express receives good response Hyderabad, April 18 (INN): 'Science Express,' a Science Exhibition on Train, was opened for public viewing at Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday by Md Salman, a 7th Class Student of Madina Public School, Himayath Nagar, Hyderabad in the presence of Secunderabad Division Additional Divisional Railway Manager Ravi Kumar, Sr Divisional Commercial Manager Christopher and Science Express Coordinator Vijay Ramaniah.
Right from the opening time, 10 AM, the Science Express attracts streams of students from a number of schools and colleges. The Science Express is run by Indian Railway on full tariff basis, receiving the operational cost of Science Express from the Department of Science and Technology.
Science Express is a unique science exhibition on a 16 fully air-conditioned coaches, traveling across all the states and union territories of India. This exhibition showcases cutting edge research in Science.
An Indo-German collaborative project, it was jointly flagged off October 30, 2007 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
This innovative exhibition has received an unprecedented response and created several records. During its three phases till April, 2010, it has been visited by over 51 lakh people, mostly students.
So far, it has travelled over 50,000 km, covering over 160 locations during its 600 plus exhibition days.
This state-of-the art classroom on wheels attempts to develop scientific temper amongst the masses and encourages students to pursue higher studies and careers in science. It hosts interactive exhibits developed by Max Planck Society, Germany, Department of Science and Technology, the Indian Government and Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre, Ahmedabad.
It also houses the 'Joy of Science' lab for conducting Science and Mathematics experiments as well as exhibitions on climate change and India's heritage in Science and Technology.
The sparkling white Science Express features over 300 large format visual images, 150 video clips and multi-media exhibits. The Science Express will be stationed at Secunderabad till April 21, 2011.
