Extortionists posing as policemen nabbed Hyderabad, April 21 (INN): The Marredpally police apprehended three persons who have been accused of extorting money by posing as policemen late on Wednesday night from the Jubilee Bus Station in Secunderabad.
According to Sub-Inspector Faizullah Khan, the accused persons were identified as Jaganadham Nageshwar Rao(45), son of Late Roshalu, Guthi Anil Kumar (32) and Guthi Suresh (34), sons of Sambasiva Rao.
Mr Khan revealed that accused person were involved in 26 such offences under various police station limits such as Marredpally, Karkhana, Begumpet, Bowenpally, Mahankali, Market, Gopalpuram, Saifabad, Nampally and Afzalgunj since the past two years.
The property extorted by them was Rs 17,66,500 in cash and 61 tola in the form of gold. Police has recovered cash Rs 1.5 lakh and 15 tola of gold from their possession. The accused used to target the aged person from rural areas and threaten them to part away with their money or ornaments. Case is under investigation.
The SI further said that the police department has frequently appealed to the general public that if any one approaches them in civil dress and demands to check their belongings by showing some identity card, it may be reported to the police control room number 100 and 1090 immediately.
