Water Board vows not to spare any defaulters Hyderabad, April 28 (INN): The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board on Thursday said that no consumer who defaults on paying his water bills, including public representatives and government officials, will be spared from disconnection of their supply.
HMWSSB Chief Vigilance Officer Col K L Rao (retired) said that the Board has not even spared Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Barakatpura Corporator Uma Rani. He said that the Corporator was served a notice of disconnection for failing to pay her water cess since the past three months. She was found to owe the HMWSSB Rs 9,261, Col Rao revealed.
The Vigilance Cell official also said that checks have been carried out in Narayanguda, Lalaguda, Prakash nagar and Begumpet areas. Vigilance teams under the guidance of the Deputy General Managers of the Board are perusing all those consumers having unpaid dues for more than two or three months.
Apart from issuing disconnection notices, physical disconnections on ground are also being carried out in many areas in respect of those who have not paid their bills despite issue of notices, Col Rao said.
The CVO said that many consumers in some areas have refused to make payments and had cited the example of their Corporator who is also a defaulter on the bills.
These people were asking Water Board officials to collect payment first from their Corporators and then ask them for payments, Col Rao said. He added that this is a very unhealthy practice and hence the Vigilance Cell would not even spare the elected representatives or government officials.
Col Rao said that since water is a most precious resource on earth, it should be treated as such. Any misuse and illegal or unauthorized use shall be dealt with firmly, vowed Col Rao.
