Four held for duplicate mobiles, accessories Hyderabad, April 28 (INN): Task Force sleuths nabbed four mobile shop owners for procuring and selling spurious Nokia mobiles and accessories during raids on various shops at the Gujarati Galli at Kothi and seized property worth Rs 13 lakh, besides arresting four persons.
According to Task force Inspector Siva Maruthi, the raids were conducted after information was received that some shops were selling spurious mobile handsets and accessories.
The four accused have been identified as Prakash Nahata (46), Uttam Jodhaji (23) Jithendra Chopra (27) and Mohammed Ismail Khader (42). They are accused of selling spurious Nokia mobiles and accessories like batteries, chargers, phone covers (Panels), Hands Free etc.
The police said that the accused used to procure the spurious Nokia mobile phones and accessories from various places like Gaffar Market in New Delhi and also from other persons who directly approach them at their shops.
The accused persons used to earn huge profit by selling counterfeit mobile and its accessories to the innocent people and used to cheat the Nokia Corporation as well as their customers.
The sleuths seized six pieces of duplicate N-8 Nokia mobile phones, 20 pieces of N-97 model, 144 pieces counterfeit Nokia phone covers (Panels), 950 pieces of counterfeit Nokia batteries and 1130 pieces counterfeit Nokia hand free (Ear Phones) from them. These seized items are worth an estimated Rs 13 lakh.
Mr Siva Maruthi further revealed that these mobile phones do not have a valid IMEI number, which makes impossible to trace these phones. Besides this, the police official said that the duplicate batteries may explode while being charged. Apart from this, the duplicate phones or accessories may not work as efficiently as the original ones.
The arrested accused, along with seized materials, have been handed over to the Station House Officer Sultan Bazar Police Station for further action.
