Bhavani's body laid to rest in Vijayawada HYDERABAD: The murder of 14-year-old Bhavani by her classmate during a visit to Vijayawada is being hotly discussed by their neighbours at the Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Jeedimetla here.
'It was really unfortunate that such a thing occurred in the family of Panga Yadagiri and Sashikala. Yadagiri, a native to Warangal, migrated to the state capital and started iron scrap business at Jeedimetla. Having no children, he adopted Bhavani, daughter of his brother. The couple treated Bhavani with affection and pampered her since her childhood,' recalled G Jyothi, a tenant of Yadgiri.
Jyothi said that she was home when Bhavani was leaving home on April 21 along with her friends Pappu, Sririsha and Srikanth. 'We discussed her examinations soon after Bhavani returned from school. A few minutes later, she left home taking some money along with her friends,' she added.
G Sudhakar, a relative of Bhavani, said that Bhavani's final rites were performed in Vijayawada on Friday as the body was in a decomposed state. While the postmortem conducted by the Mangalagiri government hospital doctors and the Jeedimetla police inspector Sanjeeva Rao ruled out sexual abuse of the girl in the absence of any evidence, S Damodar, assistant commissioner of police of Balanagar division, suspects a romantic affair between Pappu and Bhavani.
Pappu, Sirisha and Srikant confessed to their involvement in the murder case of Bhavani, which took place in Tadepalli village near Vijayawada, he said, adding that Pappu, Sirisha and Srikanth were in police custody and the Jeedimetla police were investigating the case.
'There was an affair between Pappu and Bhavani. As the victim forced Pappu for an assurance on marriage, he chalked out a plan and killed her by pushing her down from the railway bridge into a canal,' the ACP said and added that the police would initiate an investigation based on the autopsy report.
Bhavani's parents and relatives identified the body from the clothes she was wearing though the body was in a decomposed state. Eight policemen were posted near the homes of Pappu and Srikant to prevent any untoward incident.
