Unable to marry, cousins commit suicide Hyderabad, May 3 (INN): Unable to come to terms with the fact that their parents refused permission for them to marry, a 25-year-old man and his cousin committed suicide at separate places in the state on Tuesday.
According to Narketpally Sub-Inspector V Swamy, the cousins, Gugulotu Venkateshwar and his cousin Gugulotu Sharadha (20), residents of Ghanya Thanda, Gattu Singaram in Khammam district, had fallen in love and were keen to marry. However, their parents refused to give them permission, since their fathers were blood brothers.
Venkateshwar, a helper in the APCPDCL, had approached his parents and tried to convince them to get he and his cousin Sharada marry. However, the parents remained firm in their stance.
They also fixed Venkateshwar's marriage with another girl, hoping that this would divert his attention from Sharada. Early on Sunday, the cousins left home and took a decision that they would either live together or die together. The pair wrote a suicide note.
On Monday, Venkateshwar left Sharadha at Narketpally where consumed poison near a brick factory. He came to Hyderabad and consumed poison at Afzalgunj. Their bodies have now been shifted to government hospitals for postmortem. Further investigations are on.
