According to Mothugudem Sub-Inspector Ramakanth, the lorry was stopped after the police received a tip-off that it was illegally transporting the ganja. Following the tip-off the police, along with the forest officials intensified searches on the vehicles.
They stopped a lorry coming from neighbouring Orissa state and bound for Hyderabad. The police found 41 gunny bags full of the illegal contraband. Police said that each bag weighs between 40 to 45 kilos.
The driver Tirupati Mohan (29) and his colleague Linga Mohan (27) were arrested. They are said to be residents of Uppal in Hyderabad. Two more persons on board the lorry managed to flee, the police said.
Mr Ramakanth further said that the two arrested persons have confessed to knowingly carrying the contraband in their vehicles and have brought the ganja from Orissa. Police have registered a case under NDPS Act and a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding culprits.
