Families on the run after 'honour killing' HYDERABAD: Members of six families are suspected to have been involved in the 'honour killing' of 18-year old girl Madhavi at Kakanoor village near Shadnagar in Mahaboobnagar district.
Though eight of the accused have been identified, police could not catch any one of them as they fled the village.'Some of the accused locked their houses and left the village,' a police officer said.
Madhavi married Lingamaiah, who is from another caste, against the wishes of her family and had been staying in the village for three years. Even as her family members remained calm for some days, they took away the girl forcibly from her husband's house on Thursday, stoned her to death and set her ablaze on a hillock near the village.
'Though some members of the families involved in the killing remained at homes the accused have fled the village. A few families have locked their houses and fled the village probably fearing arrest and retaliation by the other side,' police said and sounded confidant that the accused would be arrested soon.
'The accused have been identified and will be arrested. Special teams have been formed to nab them,' Keshampet police sub-inspector Sai Chandra Prasad said. A police picket has been posted in the village to prevent any violence arising out of the killing.
