Driver nabbed for stealing jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh Hyderabad, May 8 (INN): Jubilee Hills police on Sunday arrested a car driver who stole gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh from his employer's residence and recovered the stolen property from his possession.
The police said that the one Jagdish Prasad, a resident of Prashasannagar in Jubilee Hills had filed a complaint about the theft and named the maid servants as the prime suspects.
Mr Prasad's wife had kept the jewellery in an almirah after her return from a family function on April 27. The driver, Santosh had entered the house to take the car keys when he noticed the almirah keys lying untended. He managed to steal the jewellery and hide it under the seat of the car.
The theft was discovered two days later and a police complaint filed. When he noticed that he was not being suspected, Santosh tried to dispose off the stolen jewellery at Punjagutta where he was nabbed on a tip-off.
The police said that Santosh had managed to lay his hands on one gold chain, one diamond pendant, pair of diamond ear rings, one pair of diamond bangles, two bangles with white stones and five gold bangles. All the stolen property was recovered from his possession.
The police appealed to the owners who hire domestic servants to verify their antecedents and also inform their details to the police.
