Lovelorn constable kills colleague, shoots self Hyderabad, May 9 (INN): A police constable opened fire and killed his love interest and colleague and then attempted suicide by shooting himself in his chest with his service weapon inside the Kukatpally police station in the wee hours of Monday.
According to Inspector K Srinivas Rao, the constable Srinivas, shot his colleague Lalitha Devi, who he was in love with, after she delayed accepting his marriage proposal. Both the constables belonged to the 2009 batch.
The Inspector said that Srinivas had been in love with Lalitha Devi and had proposed marriage to her, but she had demurred from replying. Due to the delay in accepting his proposal, constable Srinivas suspected that Lalitha was attracted to someone else.
In a fit of rage, the constable shot Lalitha with the service weapon given by the department inside the police station and then turned the gun on himself.
Their colleagues were jolted out of their early morning sleep and rushed them to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors did their best to save their lives. Lalitha succumbed to her injuries around afternoon. Constable Srinivas is said to be still in a critical condition. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
