Security enhanced as Mecca Masjid blast anniversary nears Hyderabad, May 15 (INN): City Police Commissioner AK Khan on Sunday said that the police department has been told to be vigilant as the fourth anniversary of the Mecca Masjid blasts on May 18 approaches as intelligence inputs suggest that followers of terror operator Viqaruddin may try to emulate his attacks on police pickets.
Talking to media persons here, Mr Khan said that the police take no chances with the security arrangements, despite the fact that Viqaruddin has been arrested.
'We will deploy additional forces in sensitive areas in view of the anniversary or the tragic incident,' Mr Khan told media persons here. Mr Khan added that additional forces will be deployed in sensitive areas in Hyderabad City on May 18 in order to prevent any untoward situation.
He added that police department has received inputs from the Intelligence sources, that Viqauruddin's followers may attempt to create communal disturbances in the city, taking the anniversary of the blasts as an excuse.
The city police chief reminded that his department has stepped up security arrangements and has taken 11 gangsters in custody in the recent days. He added that three rowdy-sheeters have also been externed from the city. 'Surveillance has been enhanced on the movement of anti-social elements and illegal arms suppliers,' the Commission said.
