HMDA to expedite lake anti-encroachment drive Hyderabad, May 17 (INN): The Lake Protection Committee of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority on Tuesday inspected various lakes in and around the city and ordered the works to be expedited.
Led by the HMDA Commissioner, the officials inspected the lakes and decided to complete the works on priority at Pedda Cheruvu (Ramanthapur), Chanda Cheruvu (Jillelaguda), Thamidikunta Lake (Madhapur), Amber Cheruvu and Yellamma Cheruvu (Kukatpally) on priority. Works on other lakes would be taken up after these five lakes are taken care of, the officials said in a statement.
The Tamidikunta (located opposite Shilparamam) is one among the most prioritized 21 lakes inspected by the Lake Protection Committee. On ground it is observed that there are few encroachments within FTL and buffer zone, and the FTL pillars are intact as erected by the irrigation authorities.
The Survey work of Yellamma Cheruvu (Kukatpally) has been completed, but Full Tank Level (FTL) stones are not fixed on ground. The Panel found some encroachments within the surveyed area.
At Amber Cheruvu (Pragathinagar ' Balanagar Mandal), it was observed that the pillars fixed earlier were dismantled by anti social elements and huge structures like apartments and individual houses have come up within FTL area.
The Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA expressed anguish over carrying out the works on slow pace. The Commissioner instructed the officers to attend the works in coordination with departments concerned like the GHMC, Irrigation, Water Works and Police Departments on a war footing.
HMDA Commissioner Rajeshwar Tiwari, Ranga Reddy Collector V Sheshadri, Joint Collector Sudarshan and other officials were present during the inspection visit.
