Ropeway at Durgam Cheruvu HYDERABAD: Tourists flocking to Durgam Cheruvu, also known as the Secret Lake due to its location, can soon look forward to enjoying an aerial view of the expanse of the lake and the surroundings with the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Limited (APTDC) proposing to set up a passenger ropeway over it.
The lake which dates back to the Qutb Shahi era, had already undergone a major facelift to make it more tourist friendly over the years and the ropeway, works on which may begin next month, would add to its appeal. The APTDC invited 'Expression of Interest' (EOI) from reputed firms last month and about four firms have expressed interest.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4 crore to Rs 4.50 crore and it is expected to be completed in a year from date of commencement. The ropeway is proposed to be 340 metres long.
The four firms which responded to the EoI include Damodar Ropeway and Construction Company, Conveyor Ropeway Services, Kolkata, Karvy of Hyderabad and Felix Engineering Works, Hyderabad. APTDC officials said the proposed project would enhance the ambience of the lake which is surrounded by imposing ancient granite rocks, boulders and hillocks.
Spread over 63 acres, the Durgam Cheruvu is considered to be one of the unique attractions of Hyderabad. Today the entire area has got a facelift with aesthetic illumination, quaint waterfalls, an interesting rock garden, beautiful floating fountain, comfortable seating arrangements, a two-km long walkway, boating facility and a coffee shop under a huge rock on the eastern side of the lake.
The lake is situated very close to Shilparamam Craft Village in Hi-tech City and receives around three to four lakh visitors a year.
