Couple's petty tiff leads to daughter's death HYDERABAD: A tiff between a couple led to the death of their 16-month-old daughter at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district on Thursday. The girl, who was in her mother's arms, fell on the gravel leading to her death when the couple had a tiff over a petty issue, the police said.
According to police, the couple, Chennaiah and Padmamma, hail from Potanapally in Mahabubnagar mandal. They have two daughters, a seven-year-old girl and a 16- month-old girl, Nandini. On Thursday afternoon, the couple left to Devarakadra village to visit Chennaiah's sister.
'The couple were walking towards Chennaiah's sister's house when an argument broke out between them. Chennaiah, who was drunk, grabbed Padmamma by her hair and pushed her,' Devarakadra police sub-inspector Baganna Goud said.
Padmamma, who was holding the infant, fell on the ground and in the process Nandini's head hit the sharp gravel on the road. Unmindful of the injury to the girl, Chennaiah pulled his wife to a distance.
Nandini, who suffered an internal injury, was dead by that time. The villagers thrashed Chennaiah and handed him to the police. A case was registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against Chennaiah.
