CBI books police officials for Azad's false encounter Hyderabad, May 20 (INN): The Anti-Corruption Zone of the Central Bureau of Investigations on Friday registered a case against Andhra Pradesh police officials on the allegations of a false encounter that led to the death of top Naxal leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad and journalist Hemchandra Pandey.
The case was registered based on the Writ Petitions filed by Swami Agnivesh and Hemchandra Pandey's widow Bineeta Pandey in the Supreme Court which said that Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad, Central Committee Member and spokes person of Communist Party of India (Maoist) and Hemchandra Pandey, a freelance journalist were killed in a false encounter.
The Writ Petition charged that the Andhra Pradesh police, on the intervening night of July 1, 2010 and July 2, 2010 had killed the Azad and Pandey in a false encounter.
The Supreme Court had directed the CBI, Hyderabad, to register a case against the Circle Inspector, Asifabad; Sub-Inspector, Thandur Police Station; RSI, AR Head Quarters, Bellampally; Civil and AR Special Party Police Officers and others.
