Police to revoke 472 arms licences: AK Khan Hyderabad, May 25 (INN): City Police Commissioner AK Khan on Wednesday said that the police will soon revoke 472 Arms Licences after irregularities were discovered in their holder's application.
Mr Khan told media persons that a co-ordination meeting of the police Commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Ranga Reddy Superintendent of Police was conducted on Wednesday and it is has been decided on exchange of weekly information on applicants applying for grant of Arms license of different places.
Mr Khan said that so far, 2591 licences were checked and of these, irregularities were found in the applications of 472 licence holders. He added that there are 4890 licenses covering 6167 Arms in Hyderabad city. The city police chief reminded that Zonal DCPs with ACPs and staff are personally checking the licenses.
Mr Khan also said that people staying in Hyderabad city and Ranga Reddy districts are applying to the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad , Cyberabad and Ranga Reddy Collector and are obtaining weapons by suppressing information which is against Arms Act and Rules.
The police chief also stated that a large number of people coming from other districts or states to Hyderabad should re-register their license with Zonal DCPs within 30 days and should also intimate to licensing authorities and vice-versa. Any licensee found violating the Arms Act and Rule will be prosecuted, he added.
Mr Khan also pointed out that in Cantonment areas serving and retired Armed Forces members are leaving the state without intimating the license authorities and not re-registering with the concerned authorities about their present place of stay.
He added that the police have no information about these retired army personnel since the past several years. Their licenses have also not been renewed, Mr Khan added, saying, 'We are taking up such issues with Sub area commander as this is a security concern.'
He also stated that dealers of Arms shops have to maintain certain registers and follow Arms Acts and Rules. All 20 licensed dealers in city are being checked by Joint Commissioners of Police and Zonal DCPs and action is being initiated against those where irregularities have been noticed, the city police chief stated.
For the people who are coming with licenses from other States and want to purchase arms in City we are verifying genuineness of license with concerned State licensing authorities, Mr Khan revealed.
