Inter-state attention diversion thief nabbed Hyderabad, June 7 (INN): Sleuths of the Central Crime Station (Detective Department on Tuesday nabbed a notorious inter-state offender who used to rob people by diverting their attention.
According to the police, C Sunder Raj (33), a native of Thirichinapally district of Tamil Nadu State had committed thefts by diverting the attention of people in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad since the past 12 years along with his accomplices, Shiva, Subramanyam, Suresh and Nagaraj. The police is on the lookout for the Sunder Raj's absconding accomplices.
The police said that he was arrested by Delhi Police and sent him to judicial remand in 1999 for the same offence when he worked alone but continued with his criminal activities along with his accomplices after his release from jail. Sunder Raj and his associates made their way to Hyderabad to try their luck in the city.
However, the CCS sleuths had been tipped off by their sources that the gang would target gullible people in the city and were laying wait at the Andhra Bank, SR Nagar Branch on Tuesday. When the police swooped on Sunder Raj, his associates managed to escape. On searching him, Rs 1,70,000 was found on his person and seized.
Sunder Raj confessed that he along with the associates committed two offences in Hyderabad and had managed to lay hands on Rs 2.5 lakh of which the Rs 1.7 lakh was recovered. The notorious criminal also confessed that he and his associates had committed several offences in Hyderabad city in recent times while he was in Ramji Nagar
Deputy Commissioner of Police J Satyanarayana said that the officers responsible for apprehending the notorious criminal will be properly rewarded.
