Mystery behind wine shop owner's death solved HYDERABAD: A case of 'hit-and-run' in which a wine shop owner was killed at LB Nagar last month turned out to be a murder with the police arresting a close relative of the victim. The accused knocked down the victim's two-wheeler with a car to kill him while he was on his way home on April 21.
The deceased, N Madhusudhana Rao (34), was a resident of Telephone Colony and used to run Sagar Wines in partnership with another person at LB Nagar. Apart from the wine shop, he had a private finance business and a dealership in second hand cars. Madhusudhana Rao brought up his aunt's son, V Srinivasa Rao, after the death of her aunt and engaged him to collect the daily collections from the wine shop and finance business.
Recently, when Madhusudhana Rao went on a trip to Hong Kong, Srinivasa Rao misappropriated more than Rs 90 lakh from the wine shop and finance collections and used it himself, instead of depositing it in the account.
On returning home and finding that Srinivasa Rao misused the money, Madhusudhana Rao reprimanded him. As Madhusudhana Rao mounted pressure on Srinivasa Rao to return the amount, Srinivasa Rao decided to eliminate him and on the night of April 21 when the victim was returning home on a two-wheeler from the wine shop, he knocked down his vehicle with a Tata Indica (AP 21Q 6443).
Madhusudhana Rao was shifted to a private hospital at Kothapet where he died while being treated. Police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the 'unknown vehicle' and during investigation they sensed foul play by Srinivasa Rao.
'Madhusudhana Rao used to write a diary and it went missing after the accident. Madhusudhana Rao's family members later came to know that Srinivasa Rao took away the diary,' police said.
According to police, Srinivasa Rao also created a scene at the LB Nagar police by charging the police with failure to trace the car involved in the accident. 'His over reaction prompted us to suspect him and on interrogation, we came to know that he was behind Madhusudhana Rao's death,' police said.
Police said Srinivasa Rao took the help of another person, Sravan, who is absconding, in eliminating Madhusudhana Rao. The case was altered to murder and investigation is on.
