'I wanted to see the city I was born in'
HYDERABAD: Six American youths of Telugu origin have a chance to learn about their culture, live and work in Hyderabad for six weeks and they are excited about it.
Praneetha Mullangi, a student of University of California, Berkeley says, 'The city has changed a lot in the past seven years, since I migrated to the US. I would like to know more about the Indian model of business. I will also be able to experience the culture of the city I was born more closely, she mused.
Praneetha intends to study public health and management. Divya Raju, who is studying biomedical sciences from Texas A&M University said, 'I have interned previously in paediatrics and neo-natal intensive care and am looking forward to learning more in India.'
Her mother, Jyothi, who will be in India with her says, 'I hope her stay would help her learn more about Telugu culture and get to know the people here better.'
Delivering the inaugural address for the 3rd TANA International Internship Programme for the Youth at the Care Hospitals on Friday, Dr Kakarla Subba Rao, president of the Telugu Association of North America said, 'You all have a great opportunity to learn the feelings of compassion, sympathy and empathy. As ambassadors of India in the US, our values are reflected in you.'
Over the course of the next six weeks, the youngsters will undergo internship with Care hospitals, business and law firms. 'If the internees are interested in any specific field of specialisation, they will be encouraged to learn more about it,' said Dr Krishnam Raju, chairman of Care Foundation.
Students from the medical stream will intern for five weeks at various departments in the hospital followed by one week of rural visit to the outreach centre of Care Hospitals to understand rural health management.
