Two notorious snatchers held, 120 tolas of gold ornaments seized Hyderabad, June 21 (INN): Sleuths of the Malakpet police on Tuesday arrested two notorious chain snatches and recovered 120 tolas of Gold in the form of chains, necklaces, and Pustelatadu, all worth an approximate Rs 25 lakh.
The two arrested accused have been identified as Imran (23) and Abdur Rahman (29). Their accomplices, Hassan and Talib are absconding and efforts are on to apprehend them. The police said that besides the 120 tolas of gold ornaments, 37 items in all, two motorcycles used during the snatching incidents were also seized.
Giving details, the police said that the two accused Imran and Abdur Rahman were stopped at Gaddiannaram Crossroads while they were speeding on a motorcycle.
Suspecting something fishy, the police searched them bodily and recovered stolen gold chains from their possession. The two confessed that they were on their way to dispose off the gold ornaments in the Gulzar Houz market.
On interrogation by Malakpet crime staff, they confessed to have totally committed 37 snatching offences in the limits of Hyderabad City covering 20 police stations of East, West, South and Central Zones.
Imran was earlier involved in snatching case in Abids police station limits, along with his associates Abdul Kaleem, Arif Ahmed and Munawar, all residents of Yakutpura.
The four were arrested by the Golconda police, besides Abdul Hannan, Abdul Rahan and Abdul Jaweed as they were involved in 19 gold chain snatching offences of West and East Zones.
Imran was also involved in a murder case under Reinbazar police station limits along with his mother and maternal aunt where in they burnt to death their neighbour namely Nafees Begum over trivial issue.
Presently two non-bailable warrants are pending against the accused Imran.
The police further said that Imran, Rahman and their absconding associates Hassan and Talib are Junior college dropouts from reputed institutions and have taken up the above crime to live a lavish lifestyle indulging in all kind of vices.
Giving the modus operandi of the accused, the police said that they targeted their victims during early morning hours, between 6 AM to 9 AM wherein there is no or sparse traffic and very few police patrol on the move.
