Secretariat employees protest against police highhandedness
Hyderabad, June 27 (INN): Class Four employees at the Secretariat on Monday demonstrated at 'J Block' and later at the Chief Minister's Office, protesting against the inhuman treatment meted out to two of their colleagues, who were earlier beaten up by the police on a complaint lodged by Roads and Buildings Principal Secretary S P Singh for theft of his laptop from his chambers on Saturday.
The complaint was lodged in the Saifabad police station against the two attenders, Mohammed Fayaz and Mohammed Abdul Jaleel of his Peshi who allegedly committed the theft of the said laptop. Earlier, cheques worth Rs 15,000 were also allegedly stolen in his chambers.
Both the victims told media persons at the Secretariat on Monday that they were beaten up black and blue by Sub Inspector Shankar accompanied by four constables in the police station.
Pleading innocence and registering their protest, the Class Four staff went in a procession to the C Block, the Chief Minister's Office and raised slogans against the Chief Security Officer, the Sub Inspector and the Deputy Secretary.
The protestors demanded that all the three officers be suspended by the evening, failing which they threatened to intensify their stir. Later the employee's leaders met Chief Secretary S V Prasad and submitted a memorandum seeking solution to their grievance. The Chief Secretary is understood to have assured to conduct an enquiry and resolve the issue by Tuesday.
The victims later said that they had been working the department for the last 15 years and nothing had been lost. 'This is the first time such an incident occurred,' they said. They found fault with the Chief Security Officer and the Deputy Secretary for conspiring against them as no formal inquiry was ordered for theft of the articles.
