Dr. Mohan Mallam installed as SBCMS President
Barstow, California (June 28, 2011). Dr. Mohan Mallam, NATA founder and core advisory member, became the 119th president of the San Bernardino County Medical Society (SBCMS) on June 15th at an installation ceremony at the San Bernardino Hilton.
SBCMS installed the new officers and presented a series of community awards for contributions to health care, including medical student scholarships at their annual function.
SBCMS, founded in 1878, is a professional membership organization comprised of 1,700 physicians practicing medicine in San Bernardino County in California. It is a private, non-profit corporation. Its purpose is to promote and develop the art and the science of medicine, to conserve and protect the public health and to promote the betterment of the medical profession.
Dr. Mallam is a highly-experienced physician and the Medical Director at Rimrock Villa Convalescent Hospital in Barstow, California. He received his medical degree in 1978 from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in AP, India. He served his internship in Surgery at New York Medical College and a residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
He is board certified in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine, is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Mallam's involvement in organized medicine began in 1987 when he joined the San Bernardino County Medical Society, served as a California Medical Association Alternate Delegate in 1999, moved up to a Delegate position in 2006 where he continues to serve in that position today. In 2003 he began serving on SBCMS' Board of Directors and was elected to its Executive Committee in 2007.
Dr. Mallam is a great philanthropist and dynamic leader of Indian-American and Telugu community. He did an outstanding community service as physician and member of Telugu associations. He is a founder of NATA and presently serving as member of advisory council, a perennial body that advises and regulates the overall functioning of NATA.
He is involved in the leadership of several national-level associations, including American Telugu Association where he served as its President (2005-2006). Dr. Malla has provided healthcare to thousands of poor people by conducting Medical, health and vaccination camps in rural villages in AP, India. He is a true role model for many young physicians and medical students.
