Two big fish in ACB net

HYDERABAD: Nineteen years ago Boppidi Sravan Kumar Reddy joined the Board of Secondary Education as a junior assistant for a modest salary. He rose to become an assistant section officer at the Home department at the Secretariat by 2006 and was working there since.

On Tuesday when Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths knocked on his door to take stock of his assets, they found him to be a millionaire! Searches in his office and residence revealed that Reddy owned assets worth over Rs 1.05 crore which included a flat worth Rs 25 lakh at LB Nagar and 15 house plots (one at Suryapet in Nalgonda district and the rest in and around Hyderabad). The basic value of these immovable properties is around Rs 45 lakh.

The searches also unearthed Rs 1.05 lakh in cash, gold worth Rs 6.27 lakh, 340 grams silver, a two-wheeler and four wheeler. Reddy had also invested Rs 32 lakh in SIRI metal works at Ramannapet in Nalgonda district and his household articles were worth over Rs 3.30 lakh. He also had a bank balance of Rs 4.30 lakh and investments in money lending against promissory notes to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.

'He also has a huge stone crushing unit in the name of his wife. He acquired a major chunk of his properties since 2001. He claims to have taken a loan from the AP State Finance Corporation but we are verifying the details,' sources said. ACB officials said that the market value of his property could be well over Rs 5 crore.

Reddy was arrested for the disproportionate assets and would be produced before the principal special judge for ACB cases in Hyderabad.

The ACB personnel also caught another big fish on Tuesday when they found that a deputy executive engineer at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) who was caught for taking bribe a few days ago, also had disproportionate assets worth Rs 87 lakh. T Brij Kishore Singh who worked at Ward-15 in Division 2 of South Zone, GHMC, was caught on June 14 when he took Rs 50,000 bribe from a contractor.

Subsequent raids at his residence at Aga Apartment in Chirag Ali Lane in Abids revealed that he owned four flats, one each at Abids, Habsiguda, Balkampet in the city and another at Annaram village in Medak district, 15 house plots, 8.04 acres of agricultural land, a car, a two-wheeler, fixed deposits of Rs 19.61 lakh, Rs 5.70 lakh in cash, bank balance of Rs 3.12 lakh and household articles worth Rs 4.17 lakh.

"The market value of the immovable assets would be much higher and the overall assets is estimated to be worth several crores," ACB officials said.
