Work on Lakdi-ka-pul ROB to start
HYDERABAD: Motorists using the heavily congested road over bridge (RoB) at Lakdi-ka-pul will get some much-needed relief from traffic snarls as the South Central Railway (SCR) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is starting works for a two-lane parallel bridge from July 28. The project, which would make the stretch a four-lane road, is set to be completed in about 90 days.
The stretch has become a major traffic bottleneck as thousands of vehicles converge there from two major arterial roads - Nampally and Secunderabad in order to go towards Banjara Hills, Mehidipatnam, Ameerpet and Begumpet. The ROB costing around `10 crore will be built using modern technology on a priority basis.
Speaking to reportes, SCR chief administration officer Sukesh Kumar Sharma said that the design for the bridge has been finalised. The bridge would be 11 metres wide and 125 metres long and would be 6.5 metres above the railway tracks. 'The SCR will be using new methids like girder technology to build the ROB,' Sharma said.
GHMC has taken up road widening from Lakdi-ka-pul to Erragadda flyover and towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to avoid traffic congestion along the RoB. The GHMC has acquired 1,600 sq yards lands, including a portion of land belonging to the Intelligence Department. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has also agreed to shift its water pipelines soon.
SCR officials said that the RoB got delayed due to the inordinate delay on the part of GHMC in releasing the funds to the SCR. The civic body has released `6 crore till now and will be releasing the rest soon.
