PG Road robbery case solved, one held with 75 tolas of gold


 
Hyderabad, July 28 (INN): The city police on Thursday revealed that it has solved the sensational PG Road robbery case by arresting a wall painter and recovering 75 tolas of gold ornaments from him, with the help of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Akun Sabharwal told media persons that one Amjad Hussain Siddiqui was arrested in Uttar Pradesh on charges of robbing a 77-year-old widow Jeevakireetam at a flat in Innovation apartments on PG Road in Secunderabad.

Dr Sabharwal said that the painter had been employed by the lady in June to repaint her flat and had paid Rs 40,000 to him.

On July 13, the accused, Amjad, along with one of his associates came to the flat to complete the remaining painting work. The culprits pretended that they were preparing painting material and collected some insulation tape and a knife from the kitchen.

They taped the old widow's mouth, opened the almirah by threatening her with the knife and robbed gold ornaments weighing 75 tolas and cash.

While leaving, they tied her hands and legs with a saree and bolted the bed room door from outside and locked the main door from outside.

The police were informed about the incident and a case (Crime No 163/2011 under section 392 IPC was registered at Ramgopalpet PS. Investigation was taken up by Inspector Shankar Yadav and his teams. The team collected the photograph of the accused from one of his friends.

The display of photographs at bus stations, railway stations etc, led to clues regarding the native place of the accused. Police got a tipoff that the accused belonged to Rai Barelly district of UP.

A team led by was sent to that state on July 23 and after strenuous work and with co-operation of UP police, the accused Amjad Hussain Siddiqui was arrested. The robbed jewellery consisting of 25 gold and 1 diamond bangles, 5 necklaces, 6 gold chains and 4 gold rings were recovered from the accused.

Dr Sabharwal added that efforts are on to trace the accomplice who assisted Amjad in committing the offence.
