Buildings deviating from plans will be demolished: GHMC chief

Hyderabad, July 28 (INN): Warning that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will demolish flats or shops which have deviated from the sanctioned plans, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu on Thursday cautioned citizens not to purchase properties built violating the norms.

Mr Krishna Babu said that those citizens who purchase properties in flats or shops which have violated from the sanctioned plan will have to do so at their own risk.

Addressing a press conference, the GHMC Commissioner said that the Corporation has identified about 670 premises which have violated by converting parking place into commercial activities and 34 premises that have made further constructions after obtaining objection certificate / occupancy certificate and 39 premises violated sanctioned plan.

'Notices have been issued to these premises and demolitions will be undertaken shortly,' Mr Krishna Babu said. On the ongoing footpath encroachment removal drive, the GHMC Commissioner said that as the hawkers are occupying footpaths, the pedestrians are forced to walk on the roads making narrow carriage way to the vehicular movement and also causing accidents.

'The pedestrians are also using the roads since the footpaths are obstructed by irregular structures made by the APCPDCL or BSNL,' the Commissioner admitted. He added that the irregular structures on footpaths causing obstructions to pedestrians have to be relocated as per standard design recommended by GHMC, by authorities concerned.

'For providing hassle free and comfort walk space to the pedestrians GHMC, an exclusive project division is being created. This division will take up junction improvement works under Town Planning Wing. Works amounting to Rs 50 crore are being taken up to bring footpaths in uniform manner throughout the city,' the GHMC chief said.

On the hawkers' policy, Mr Krishna Babu said that GHMC is working on a proposal to recommend the design for mobile cart which projects aesthetic, hygienic and also to arrange loans facilities.

'No permanent structures are allowed, only on mobile carts hawkers can run their business. The main roads will be declared as Red zone, where no hawkers are allowed, on Amber zones the hawkers are allowed to their business for a particular time and on Green zones i.e. in Colony roads there would be no restrictions on their movements,' Mr Krishna Babu said.
