Student held for en-cashing stolen cheque Hyderabad, Aug 25 (INN): The City Police on Thursday arrested a youth who en-cashed a stolen cheque by using a copy of his friend's driving license. According to Asifnagar ACP LT Chandrasekhar, the Langar House Police Station received a complaint from a woman Syed Humera Ibrahim stating that someone has stolen a signed blank cheque from her hand bag and withdrawn Rs 4 lakh from her NRI Account at SBH, Kakatiya Nagar branch.
After registering a case, police began its investigation from the SBH Branch where the stolen cheque was en-cashed. The bank authorities told the police that one Zeeshan presented the stolen cheque as bearer cheque on 3rd August 2011 and drawn amount of Rs. 4 lakh. After following proper leads, police arrested Abdul Waseem Arbaz, a 21-year-old youth and a resident of New Hakeempet, Tolichowki.
Waseem, an intermediate student, is a native of Bidar in Karnataka and was temporarily staying at his aunt's house situated at New Hakeempet. During interrogation, he confessed that he made friendship with some high class people and they used to spend money lavishly.
He also decided to enjoy life like his friends, but his pocket money was not sufficient. On August 1st he went to his friend Moin's house situated at Khader Bagh, where he found a ladies hand bag. Although he expected to steal some cash, but found only a blank signed cheque.
Waseem decided to withdraw the money from her account and procured a xerox copy of driving license of his friend Zeeshan on the pretext of buying a new sim card.
He produced the same copy to withdraw the cash from bank and after withdrawing Rs 4 lakh, he had spent Rs. 50,000 lavishly. When police approached his friend Zeeshan, he informed the police that few days ago he gave a copy of his driving license to Waseem.
Based on the information, Waseem was arrested and he confessed of having committed the crime. Police have also seized cash of Rs. 3.5 lakh from his possession. The accused Waseem is being sent to judicial remand.
