Clay Ganesh idols to prevent pollution Hyderabad, Aug 29 (INN): With just three days left for Ganesh Chaturthi, the State Pollution Control Board has intensified its campaign to use clay idols to prevent pollution.
As part of the campaign, the Special Secretary of AP Pollution Control Board M C Pargaien on Monday formally launched the distribution of clay Ganesh idols in a programme at his office.
He said the PCB has decided to distribute 5 feet Ganesh Idols made with clay in the 150 wards in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits as part of preserving lakes from the pollution.
Pargaien said the PCB would distribute clay Ganesh idols free of cost to those who wants to establish pandals in their respective wards. The Board encourages the associations which use mud idols for the puja, he said.
Apart from five feet Ganesh idols, he said the Board would sell 50,000 small idols on subsidized price of Rs 5. He said the Board would set up counters at all places across the city to sell the small idols.
He called upon people to avail this opportunity and protect the rivers and lakes in the city from the pollution. He thanked all voluntary bodies, media and association for popularizing the use of mud idols in Ganesh Chaturthi.
