Pre-activated SIM card racket busted Hyderabad, Oct 28 (INN): Investigation into the threatening and abusive messages to women, led the police to a racket involved into sale of pre-activated SIM cards in the city.
Based on complaints lodged by some people that they are receiving threatening and abusive messages, the West Zone Team of Commissioner's Task Force started investigations.
However, the sleuths were shocked to find that a huge racket of pre-activated SIM cards was operating in the city. On Thursday, the police apprehended three persons - Anil Singh, Ritesh Singh and Shaik Imran who involved in the offence.
The police seized as many as 55 SIM Cards, 28 Applications and three cell phones from their possession.
According to police, the main accused Anil Singh, who runs a pan shop at Mangalhat, used to send threatening and abusive message to people, along with his friend Ritesh Singh. For this, Ritesh obtained four SIM cards from Shaik Imran without submitting any identity or address proofs.
Further investigations revealed that Shaik Imran with the encouragement of his dealer Hareesh Rakhee, owner of Nandini distributors, was involved in sale of SIM cards without collecting any required documents primarily to increase his sales.
Imran used to make several copies of photo identity and address proofs of genuine innocent customers and submit the same to activate SIM-cards fraudulently. These pre-activated SIM cards used to be sold for a premium.
The Task Force team has handed over the accused and seized material to Mangalhat Police Station for further action. Meanwhile, the City Police has warned the authorized dealer of SIM cards of all companies of stern action if they do not strictly follow the procedures of issuing SIM cards.
