Navodaya Students get Hepatitis B vaccine
Ongole, December 3. Students of Navodaya Vidyalaya were given the vaccine for Hepatitis B at a medical camp organised by the Saiveena Seva Samastha here on Wednesday. Hepatitis-B vaccine were administered to 350 students in the medical camp.
CEO of Saiveena Children's hospital, Paediatrician L. Suneel Kumar Reddy said that Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus. It is a major global health problem. It can cause chronic liver disease and chronic infection and puts people at high risk of death from cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer.
A vaccine against hepatitis B has been available since 1982. Hepatitis B vaccine is 95% effective in preventing infection and its chronic consequences, Every child should be administered Hepatitis B vaccine, besides other vaccines , said Dr. M Ravikumar.
