Eatala admits of increase in prices of essential commodities Hyderabad, March 16 (INN): Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender has admitted that the prices of some essential commodities like pulses and edible oils have increased during the last one year across Telangana State.
Replying to a question raised by MLAs K.P. Vivekananda, Arekapudi Gandhi and others during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Eatala said there has been increase of 83 paise in per kg prices of Superfine Rice (Best Quality) compared to last year. As against the price of Rs. 35.58 in 2015, Superfine Rice (Average Quality) is being sold at Rs. 37.31 as on March 11 this year. Similarly, prices of Redgram Dal Grade-I has increased from Rs. 87.55 in 2015 to Rs. 136.48 this year; Redgram Dal Grade-II - Rs. 79.05 to Rs. 121.33; Blackgram Dal - Rs. 86.19 - Rs. 150.57; Greengram Dal - Rs. 104.19 - Rs. 105.16; Bengalgram Dal - Rs. 48.31 to Rs. 65.56; Tamarind (without seed sort-II) - Rs. 73.99 to Rs. 78.55 and the prices of Chilies have increased from Rs. 89.62 last year to Rs. 133.75 this year. The onion prices have declined from Rs. 18.77 per kg last year to Rs. 11.09 per kg this year.
The Finance Minister claimed that prices of many vegetables, being sold in Rythu Bazars, have come down compared to last year.
He informed the House that Price Monitoring Committee, under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary has been meeting regularly and reviewing the prices of essential commodities and advising the measures to be taken to control the prices.
During August-October 2015, when the prices of onions had gone up to about Rs. 60 per kg, the Marketing Department purchased 54,277 quintals, both within and outside the State and supplied onions to the consumers at Rs. 20 per kg duly incurring a subsidy of Rs. 14.56 crores. When the prices of Redgram Dal increased in September 2015, organised sale of 1831 quintals through Rythu Bazars and Special Counters was done at Rs. 135 per kg.
The minister also informed that cases under PD Act have been registered against 68 persons for black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities.
He also informed that 10 lakh new gas connections have been approved under the Deepam Scheme. He said all the applications forwarded by MLAs have been approved.
