Roja Appears Before Privileges Committee
YSRCP MLA Roja on Wednesday have appeared before the Privileges Committee on the issue of her alleged 'objectionable' comments against the ruling TDP leaders in the Assembly. Roja had been served notices on two earlier occasions. However, she could not appear on both occasions due to various reasons. She had informed in writing her inability to attend the hearing.
Earlier Privileges Committee had recommended one year suspension from the House which was accepted by the Assembly in the recent session. The House accepted the recommendation of the Privileges Committee to give one more opportunity to Ms Roja to appear before it. The committee after hearing Roja argument will send the report to House which will take final call.
Privileges Committee chairperson Gollapalli Surya Rao said the explanation given by YSRCP MLA Roja has been recorded and a report on the proceedings would soon be forwarded to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He said that he cannot reveal anything more than this as the committee is a statutory body.
Roja has approached supreme court challenging her suspension and the apex court admitted Roja's appeal and the hearing is scheduled for Monday.
