20-Point chief reviews 'Education for All' scheme
Hyderabad, April 12 (INN): Twenty Point Programme Chairman Y. Srinivasa Seshasai Babu on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of 'Education for All' programme in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the meeting at the State Secretariat here, Seshasai Babu said that education was a right for everyone and it plays a fundamental role in human, social and economic development, Chairman, Committee on Twenty Point Programme said. He explained the reasons for low literacy in the State. Historically Andhra Pradesh is one of the neglected states in the country. Even after independence much attention has not been paid for educational development, till 1981. Literacy is viewed as an isolated concept and not integrated into the development programmes, he said.
District-wise population and literacy and illiteracy rates were discussed in the meeting. As per the census of 2011 the literacy rate is 67.41%. Due to improvement in literacy rate, the literate people can utilize the government schemes effectively without depending on middle men, the Chairman opined.
Chairman emphasized that the Departments like Rural Development, Agriculture, Women Development and Child Welfare, Welfare Departments, Forest Department, Animal Husbandry, etc., can play major role by making their stakeholders (beneficiaries) literate.
Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker who participated in the convergence meeting issued instructions to prepare consolidated action plan of each and every department within a week on the scheme Education for All, which caters to the benefit of the BPL in making each and every beneficiary literate and to give utmost priority to the awareness programme to achieve 100% literacy.
Prl. Secretary School Education R.P. Sisodia, State Resource Centre representative G. Muniratnam and other officers attended the meeting.
