Shift IPL out of Maharashtra after April 30 Acute water crisis is casting shadow over cricket matches. At a time when people are grappling with the severe water shortage water was wasted squandered over preparing pitches for the games. A plea was filed against the IPL matches in Bombay high court.
The Bombay High Court today announced its verdict and ordered that all IPL matches after April 30 should be shifted outside Maharashtra. With the decision 13 matches will be moved to venues outside the state.The matches scheduled until April 30 can, however, be held in the state.
The IPL teams including Mumbai and Pune franchise had appealed the court not to ban the matches, as they had made substantial investments. These IPL franchises may file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the high court's verdict.
King's XI team from Punjab has adopted the Nagpur stadium as home ground and it will also suffer from the verdict. BCCI had argued it would not be feasible to shift the matches out of the state.
Mumbai and Pune franchises have announced that they willing to contribute Rs 5 crore each towards the chief minister's drought relief fund, to help the farmers in distress. 13 matches were originally scheduled to be held in the state in May, including the Mumbai final on May 29.
