BSNL has to speed up the CCTNS project: DGP

Hyderabad, Aug 8 (INN): Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma has reviewed the progress on the implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and systems (CCTNS) in a high level State Empowered Committee meeting held on Monday in his chambers wherein the DGP has strictly warned the BSNL staff to speed up the works by replacing with new cables in Cyberabad police stations limits.

He also appealed the Telangana State Technology Services (TSTS), National Informatics Centre (NIC) officials and other stakeholders of the CCTNS project to speed up the works on or before the paucity of funds by March, 2017 positively.

While giving power point presentation, ADGP Technical Services Ravi Gupta said that the CCTNS is a Mission Mode Project under National e-Governance Plan of GOI and the MHA has allocated an amount of Rs. 2,000 crores to cover 35 states and Union Territories linking more than 14,000 Police stations and 6,000 higher offices across the country. The benefit of CCTNS is an information exchange across the country and it is an enhanced tool for investigation to the police department.

The CCTNS is a standardised means of capturing the crime and criminal data across the police stations in the country which can be used by agencies such as National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) and SCRB, DCRB. The CCTNS will make the police functioning citizen friendly and more transparent by automating the functioning of police stations and it will reduce the workload of the police stations back office activities such as preparation of regular reports and station records management. Sri Ravi Gupta also said that 86 percentage of work has been completed of data digitization and verifications in Telangana state except some of remote area police stations and Cyberabad and Hyderabad area police stations where in the frequent disturbances are coming up in cable lining from underground.

In the meeting it was discussed that so far 328,480 petitions have been received in all police stations across Telangana state after bifurcation and 267,407 FIRs been noted down. The identified History sheeters are around 8072 as per the police records from all 10 districts of Telangana state.

Subsequently, The DGP has also reviewed the implementation of Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) after the CCTNS subject. The Telangana is one of the pilot states for ICJS project implementation. The ICJS objective is to facilitate delivery of justice by digitizing and interlinking the data exchange among the courts, Police, Prosecution, Forensic, Prison, Juvenile Justice and Finger Print.

The members of State Empowered committee SK Tanwar, GT Venkateshwara Rao, Dr. YS Murthy, Naveen Mittal, Rajiv Trivedi, Dr. Sowmya Misra, Dr. A. Ram Mohan Rao, M. Nathaniel and Vamshi Mohan Reddy and other senior officials attended the meeting.
