Congress demands CBI probe into Nayeem's case

Hyderabad, Aug 12 (INN): Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday demanded CBI probe into the cases pertaining to ex-naxalite-turned-gangster Md. Nayeemuddin who was killed in exchange of fire with the police on August 8.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Legislature Party office, Shabbir Ali said that the seizure of cash, Arms & Ammunition and land records shows that gravity of the criminal activities Nayeem and his gang was involved into. Therefore, he said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Telangana Government would not be able to conduct multi-dimensional, multi-disciplinary and inter-State investigation. He said that the Income Tax and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) would be able to trace the origin of illegal cash and how it was accumulated.

Similarly, he said that the recovery of two AK-47 assault rifles, a sten gun and other Arms and Ammunition involve investigation at the national and international levels. "How a gangster was able to get access to heavy Arms and Ammunitions like AK-47 rifles? What is their made? Pakistan, China or were they stolen from Indian Army or Police? How they were smuggled into Hyderabad? Were they supplied by the police officials themselves? This issue involves threat to national security and a SIT, headed by an IGP Rank officer and comprising of Police Inspectors, will not be able to find out the truth." he said.

Quoting media reports, Shabbir Ali said several politicians, big industrialists, realtors and other influential persons are allegedly involved in this criminal-police-politicians nexus. "The recent development of Yadadari Temple has given a major boost to real estate industry in Bhongir and surrounding areas. Everyone is trying to capatalise the reality boom and therefore, Nayeem and his gang and their contacts prospered through their illegal activities. All such politicians, irrespective of their party affiliations and posts, should be punished," he demanded.

"We cannot expect the SIT to probe into all these aspects as it also involves concerns for national security. CBI is the best agency to conduct a thorough probe. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should consider our demand\ and order a CBI investigation on immediate basis," he said. When asked whether the Congress party doubts the capability of SIT, he said that the State Government did an eye wash in the CID investigation into the case of leakage of Eamcet-2 question paper. A few brokers were arrested while the real kingpin never got exposed. "This should not happen in Nayeem's case and everyone who supported or encouraged his criminal activities should be brought to book," he demanded.
