Rains in Guntur bring commuters to a stand still Guntur, Sept 22 (INN): Heavy rains have disrupted the normal life in most of the districts in Andhra Pradesh. In Guntur district, the normal life came to a grinding halt, with heavy rains since Thursday morning.
The rivulets were overflowing bringing the traffic movement to a halt. At as many as 15 places between Dachepally to Pidiguralla on Guntur road, lakes and water bodies were overflowing submerging the roads completely. The commuters had a tough time as they buses and other transport vehicles were stopped on either sides of the roads due to heavy rains and subsequently overflowing of water on the road. The traffic movement was also affect on the Nalgonda-Hyderabad road. The authorities closed the Narsaraopet road for a while as Jonnalgadda pond water was overflowing the national highway. The RTC authorities resumed services this afternoon for Guntur via Suryapet and Vijayawada.
About 45 passengers of a RTC bus had a miraculous escape when the flood water entered into the bus in Krosuru mandal in the district. Sources said that the district collector Kantilal Dande and MLA Kommalapati Sridhar sought the help of a chopper to rescue the stranded passengers. Authorities also provided food and water to the passengers, some of who climbed atop the bus. However, with the increase in the water levels, the authorities rescued the passengers using ropes and shifted the passengers to safety.
