Congress asks Speaker to act against defected MLAs Hyderabad, Sept 22 (INN): Congress senior leader Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Thursday asked Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary to act on disqualification petitions against the MLAs who defected to ruling TRS.
Speaking to media persons here, Sashidhar Reddy said that the High Court order asking the Speaker to act on disqualification petitions also applies to Congress legislators. He alleged that the Speaker was not doing his job properly which consequently forced the court to intervene into the matter.
He said that TRS Government was not taking corrective measures despite High Court reversing several decisions taken by the State Government.
Sashidhar Reddy, who had earlier served as the Vice-Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said that State Government has failed to handle rain situation. He said that portfolio of Municipal Administration & Urban Development was held by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao himself for the last two years. Since that the Chief Minister had no time, the then Commissioner Somesh Kumar acted as per his whims and fancies and neglected the functioning of corporation. Consequently, the city roads have now turned into pools due to non-cleaning of nalas and illegal encroachments on lakes. He said the TRS Government has turned "Greater Hyderabad" into "Gaddha (pothole) Hyderabad".
Meanwhile, addressing a separate press conference TPCC Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi also slammed the State Government for mishandling rain situation. He also demanded that the minutes of Apex Body meeting convened by Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati be made public. He said that the people need to know whether KCR surrender Telangana's interest before his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu during the meeting.
