Bill Gates impressed by RTGS initiative in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati: The Real Time Governance Society of Andhra Pradesh Government received recognition from Bill Gates, the chairman of the Gates Foundation. During a visit to the RTGS centre at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat he showed keen interest in the organisation's initiatives.

During an hour-long stay at the RTGS centre, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu presented a comprehensive overview of the organisation's functioning. The presentation highlighted the use of data lakes, AWARE 2.0, WhatsApp governance, the Sanjeevani health project, and Amaravati capital development to render civic services. Bill Gates inquired about specific details.

When the Chief Minister explained the system's ability to collect public satisfaction levels on government services through RTGS, Bill Gates expressed appreciation for the system. Additionally, the Chief Minister discussed the steps being taken to safeguard land records, mentioning the use of blockchain technology and QR codes to prevent tampering.

Bill Gates also inquired about the implementation of the Sanjeevani health project in the Kuppam constituency, which is supported by the Gates Foundation. When Chandrababu Naidu mentioned that the state government maintains health records of all citizens using AI, Bill Gates acknowledged the efforts and expressed a desire for the provision of affordable diagnostic services to the poor.

Furthermore, Bill Gates inquired about the Amaravati capital development, which aims to create a green and blue city. The Chief Minister provided an update on the project's progress.

In a separate meeting with ministers and officials, including Bill Gates, the Chief Minister expressed his belief that the visit of Bill Gates Foundation chairman Bill Gates to Andhra Pradesh will catalyse further digital revolution. He reminisced about his first meeting with Bill Gates in 1997, as the Chief Minister of combined Andhra Pradesh, where he successfully convinced him to establish Microsoft in Hyderabad. This pivotal moment marked the rapid growth of the IT sector in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister highlighted Andhra Pradesh's abundant natural resources and the state government's current focus on wealth creation. He emphasised that with the cooperation of the Gates Foundation, the Swarnandhra vision 2047 will become a tangible reality.

During interactions with ministers and officials, Bill Gates expressed admiration for Chandrababu Naidu's visionary thinking, stating that the Chief Minister stands out among global leaders. He highlighted India's progress in the digital revolution, emphasising the pivotal roles played by both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister in this transformative phase. Gates Foundation's commitment to the health sector is noteworthy, as they have taken up a significant number of health projects. He underscored the urgent need for universal healthcare access and expressed gratitude for the Sanjeevani health project, implemented in collaboration with the Gates Foundation in Kuppam. Gates also acknowledged the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revolutionising the education sector. He praised the Andhra Pradesh government's efforts in introducing technology to benefit farmers, noting that while even developed countries are not fully utilising technology in agriculture, Andhra Pradesh is ahead in this regard. Additionally, Gates commended the use of technology in disaster management to mitigate loss of life and property during natural calamities.

Reflecting on his association with Chandrababu Naidu, Gates described him as a dear friend. Gates recalled that when he attempted to explain digital governance, Naidu implemented it effectively.

In response to questions from ministers, Gates highlighted the impact of Chandrababu Naidu's promotion of Information Technology (IT) in Hyderabad. He noted that a significant number of IT experts hail from Hyderabad, and Microsoft has a substantial presence in the Telugu state.
