Google Data Centre land acquisition completed in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: The land acquisition process for Google's multi-million dollar data centre in Tarluvada village in Anandapuram mandal, has been completed. The last remaining landowner, Ganesh, a differently-abled farmer, submitted his agreement papers to the Mandal Revenue Officer on Tuesday, paving the way for the project to move forward.
Ganesh expressed his gratitude to Bhimili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao for securing an additional compensation package from the government. Ganta appreciated Ganesh's decision to donate his 1.94 acres of assigned land for the Google Data Centre, saying it would be a growth engine for Visakhapatnam.
The government had decided to acquire 308 acres of land for the Google Data Centre. Ganta's efforts ensured that the compensation package was increased from ₹17 lakhs to ₹20 lakhs per acre, with an additional 20 cents of land provided to each farmer.
The completion of the land acquisition process has been hailed as a significant achievement, paving the way for the Google Data Centre to be established in the region. The centre is expected to bring in significant investment and employment opportunities to the area.
Google's AI hub in Visakhapatnam is a multi-faceted investment of approximately ₹1.25 lakh crore over five years (2026-2030), comprising gigawatt-scale data centre operations, supported by a robust subsea cable network and clean energy, to drive the most demanding AI workloads in India.
The project will be brought to life in close collaboration with ecosystem partners including AdaniConneX and Airtel. The foundational pillars of the Google AI hub developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX include purpose-built AI data centre infrastructure in Visakhapatnam that will add significant compute capacity to help pioneer a generational shift in India's AI capabilities.
The project also builds on both companies' commitment to sustainability, and will see co-investment in new transmission lines, clean energy generation and innovative energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. This will not only support the data centre's operations but also enhance the resilience and capacity of India's electricity grid.
The establishment of the Google Data Centre is expected to be a game-changer for Visakhapatnam, bringing in new opportunities for economic growth and development.
