Seemandhra deprived of power as staff launch stir Hyderabad: Several parts of Seemandhra districts were plunged in darkness following failure of six units of the Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) at Ibrahimpatnam, on the outskirts of the City, on Friday.
Six NTTPS generation units tripped due to a technical snag, each generating 210 mw, leaving the lone 500 mw unit working. Officials tried to restore the units in vain, as the employees went on a lightening strike as part of the 24-hour bandh called by the Samaikyandhra JAC.
Another technical problem halted the power supply from the distribution network at Gunadala resulting in total darkness in the City. The protesting staff refused to attend to problems.
Members of the Electricity Employees JAC, which went on a 72-hour strike in September, have already indicated that they would go on a flash strike if the division proposal was moved forward.
With the Central Cabinet approving the division proposal, the employees went on flash strike on Friday morning, refusing to attend the second shift. The staff on first shift duty at NTTPS and distribution stations left their offices in the afternoon, following which the power generation and supply suffered.
