MP Harsha's sons attack agitators RAJAHMUNDRY: In a development marked by acrimony, Amalapuram MP Harsha Kumar's sons - Sriraj and Sundar - were arrested when they attacked a few Samaikyandhra agitators who reportedly tore the flex of Rajiv Gandhi Group of Colleges here Saturday. Tension gripped the city throughout the day following the incident.
Giving vent to their anger over Harsha Kumar not resigning to his MP post despite several warnings to him, the Samaikyandhra agitators gathered before Rajiv Gandhi College, which is owned and managed by the MP's family, in the city and mutilated the flex. When Harsha Kumar's sons were informed about the incident, they immediately rushed to the college along with the gunman of their father.
They had heated arguments with the agitators and in a fit of rage assaulted them with sticks in the presence of the police. The agitators - Pramod Kumar, Sivaji, Lakshman and Durga Prasad - were injured in the incident. Pramod Kumar, who received grievous injuries, was immediately shifted to the Government Hospital.
Enraged by the incident, the agitators soon damaged the windows, college buses and the main gate. They set fire to the garbage dump before the main gate of the college and hurled stones at the college buildings.
The police had a tough time controlling the irate mobs. In a swift move, Harsha Kumar, who was away in Hyderabad, tendered an apology to the agitators at a media conference.
